Finally took the new Revo 16 out fishing after a week of rigging and getting used to not paddling.  Drove up to Nehalem from PC after hearing some decent reports.  Lots of weeds, but not too much pressure on the fishing.  Fished for about 3 hours getting used to the boat.  Got a nice hard takedown on my last pass.  Great fight with 4 or 5 good runs, really nice to be able to avoid other boats and structure being hands free.  About 14 or 15 lbs but really bright!

That's a great looking fish!

I was out there with my son on Saturday, we brought up plenty of salad, and each missed on bate-chomping hits, but nothing stuck.  Saw one fish caught out of a zodiac right off of the Wheeler dock.

Got a  last min. call from a neighbor yesterday to fish the bay. He's banker and trying to get him in a kayak. Fished above Wheeler no luck. I've been using depth charts to find the channels. Was out at low slack. So went old school and used my anchor to find the channel. Spent 20 min trying to find it. Must have filled in this summer or an old chart. I guess it's time to pickup a depth and fish finder. Trolling for three hours and not paddling sound great. Nice fish!

Nice fish man!

Surforegon:  Fishinders are just like anything else, you can spend $100 and know how deep the water is, or you can spend $2000 and count the sandlances under your boat.

SurfOregon:  Wheeler is all about the incoming especially the last 2 hours.  Being so close to there just focus on getting in a few hours of prime fishing.  A depth finder definitely helps, but I always seem to use my standard 28' out with a 4 to 6 oz cannonball stick it in the rodholder.

There are deinitely some opportunities to anchor up and run kwikfish on a strong incoming if paddling becomes too much.

I struggled in tidewater for the last few years while paddling so the new revo is off to a good start!  After bonking the nook it was also nice to jet back to the dock at about 7mph on the GPS against a soft higher tide. The 16 is a rocket.

Nice fish! Thanks for the report.
I fished out by the jaws in Nehalem Bay on Friday through the tide exchange and a couple hours into the incoming. I only saw one fish caught out there. Glad you are enjoying your new kayak in a bloody, bloody way.
