Hit the Nehalem again at Wheeler this morning at daybreak to fish the incoming tide.  Not nearly as many weeds this time.  Saw a few fish jumping around. Quite a few boats showed up at Wheeler, not as much pressure near Nehalem though.

Got a very solid take down about a an hour into fishing.  My drag is usually set quite loose and this fish took a lot of line.  Shot upriver directly in the path of the only 2 other kayakers out this morning.  recognized them from the ORC but did not know their names.  My gear got tangled temporarily in one of their lines, he went to free spool, and eventually untangled itself (that almost never happens!)  Thanks guys!

This was the only fish I saw caught in the time I was there.  Funny to overhear a powerboater say "it's just a snag"  as it peeled of line.  18lb snag.

I'll be out tomorrow morning as well if anybody wants to meet up at Wheeler.  Around 6ish.

Nice! Good to see Nehalem is getting fish. It is always a tough choice between there and B10.

Good stuff!  Yes, smaller tide exchanges will give you less weeds and a much more enjoyable experience overall.  Good to see that place is putting out!

Wow, that's awesome. Were you pulling a wobbler or bait?

Great report! It's crazy that your fish untangled itself. I was fishing the Umpqua last week when a guide boat ahead of me hooked into a hot fish. The thing started peeling drag straight for me before I had time to react. It ended up getting wrapped in my Mirage Drive and my line. I popped my drive up and freed their line and put my reel into free spool. The fish ended up nearly spooling both of us! I was feeling pretty embarrassed but realized it wasn't entirely my fault. It was a nice fish...a few minutes later and they had a chrome bright Chinook in the 30# class in the net. The guide was able to pop my line free of is Duo-Lock swivel and we went our separate ways.

Sorry for the slight thread jack. Good job getting that fish to the boat, the Revo 16 is nice, eh?
