I have only fished small lakes from a kayak. Wondering where a good, SAFE and productive place might be to put in the Outback and start gaining bay/estuary experience.
I'm in Salem, so the coast from Siletz to Tillamook is in play.

Depoe Bay or Pacific City are both great spots. Id lean toward pacific city this time of year. Getting through the surf may sound a little scary at first but it really isn't bad. Plus a PC you can catch shelter from the wind and don't have as much boat traffic to contend with. There is good fishing within a couple hundred yards of the launch. Plus there are lots of opportunities for group meet ups. Do you have all your immersion where figured out?

Tillamook bay is a great place to learn and my back yard hit me up if you got all that you need ready. Two hours before a low tide and preferably no low tide after 10:00 am -11:00 am it gets a little windy in the afternoon. Crabbing is also easily learned here.

Another place would be Yaquina Bay from the bridge on down. There are finger jetties sticking out from the south jetty and you can fish those. Don't get sucked out on a strong outgoing tide and watch out for boats in the middle of the bay. There are fish to be caught there.

Thanks gang. Mojo, I have greatly enjoyed your Tilly threads, but noted you often specify yakkers with experience.
I need to take a serious look at my gear and make sure the basics are covered.

Only experience needed to start in the Tillamook bay is know how your boat handles and above all be able to get back on board if you fall in.

If there going fishing with me I figure that all out but DON't launch much more then two hour before low tide unless you plan to fish the open ocean!
