Rigging a Native Mariner propel?

So TLW and I are both "vertically challenged" so we're shortening the pedal arms and the back deck for a crate is too far for short people to reach easily. Found a picture on the native forum and think this is the way we will go unless someone else has a better idea or rigged one that works well.
