I went targeting  pinks yesterday off Picnic point/humpy hollow. Been hearing great reports.  I decided to pick the windiest day of the month.  Started off an hour before high slack tide, peddling past 10 or shore casters.  On my very first cast, about 100 feet offshore and 10 feet of water...fish on.  I thought, man this will be a quick day. Got it to the yak fairly quckkly, bonked, and secured..rushing to get the line out right away.  Didn't really look at the fish, just assumed it was a pink. Wind was picking up, fished for another two hours, not a bite.  Got to shore, snapped a couple of pics to upgrade my pink for AOTY , and gutted I was surprised how pink the meat was.  When I got home I pulled out the fish ID chart and it definitely wasn't a pink. Sure has the characteristics of a sockeye...  Was surprised they were this close to shore and not a spawning source near by.  Hmmm?

That's what I thought at first given the location I caught it. But there were no spots on the tail  I even pulled the carcess out of the crab bait freezer to check.  ??

Ocean Coho often don't have spots on the tail, but if you looked at it's back you would probably see small black spots.  Most ocean Sockeye won't have any spots.

Coho also have silver in the tail something a Sockeye won't.

Nice catch.  Did you like the taste of one of the two more?

I love the taste of both of them Thanks for the feedback Snopro, Lee, and AKstumpy.  Guess I have a new entry for AOTY  :)
