Hi Guys! I am pretty new to fishing and also never fished in freshwater. I live on Sammamish river bank, so I went last weekend for some researching the surrounding areas. So I get through  that Sammamish river to lake Washington and wanted to catch some gobbies or perches. But I spent couple of hours paddling all over the lake and trying to find a spot without grass. But no luck! Even deep spots with 16 feet depth have something like 12 feet if grass. So the question is - should I fish in this grass or should I continue looking for spots without grass? What strategy do you use to find nice grass-less places? I bought Lowrance elite gold - it works very good  and shows me depth, bottom structure, grass, fishes, etc. Thank you in advance!  :)

Yeah there's fish in the grassy areas and in particular sometimes decent sized bass. I use a shallow diving plug (recommend Rapala shallow shad rap jointed) , 1/4 - 1/3 oz spinners, poppers, casting spoons and things like that in these type of areas. Another idea is to target perch and sunfish under a bobber with worm in these areas... If you're using spoons or spinners it's going to be up to you to control the depth of the lure so that it doesn't get hung up too often. But you're going to get hung up in the weeds every now and then, that's part of fishing. You may consider using a single point hook if you want less hang ups in the weeds. I also like to find the edge of the weed/grass line and fish the outside of that to pick up fish. Best of luck.
