Howdy folks.  I've always had a love for water, and this summer stumbled across kayak fishing and instantly knew it was for me.  I don't have yak yet but I'm trying to decide whether to get Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 XL (so I can take someone else with me), or the Hobie Outback.  The thing that was nice about the Malibu 2 XL is that people say it works decent solo and tandem both and would allow me to take my kids out also.

I'm up in Genesee, ID which is a small farming town on the Palouse.  I'm hoping to use my kayak for our camping trips around the PNW, for duck hunting around CDA lake, and hopefully get out to places like Pacific City, OR and other spots along the coast for fishing and crabbing.  I'm also looking to see if anyone catches any salmon or steelhead inland here using kayaks.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting into this sport!

Thanks Warf.  I'm hoping to hit the St. Maries area a bit once I re-finish my jon boat and get my kayak.  I guess there won't be many kayaks to join up with but that's ok.

Mighty few yak fishers around here, I have seen two in three years on the local waters and I was one of them.

Pretty good local fishing some of the chain and local lakes but it can be tough with the extreme hot weather this summer.

Real Good smallie fishing on CD'A lake but they are pretty deep this summer and if you want a pike just go bass fishing, you will get them..lol..

Nothing wrong with jon boats, I have a couple I built and use them about as much as the yaks, saves some really long paddles to good spots...

If you want to go out sometime get hold of me and we can see if it's doable...

IDH, I'm up north as well, in CDA.  Warf has offered to show me the ropes, and my new boat arrives today.  I'm relearning the whole fishing game, after many years of "doing time" with the USAF.  Retirement is busier than work ever was, but I should have the yak set up this Fall, as well as an 18' trolling boat.  I'm planning to chase everything--but I have much to learn!
