Interesting video and reaction from the authorities, wonder how many large sharks are out there that never get seen.

Probably coincidence, but of the most recent shark encounters on the California coast that I've read about all the kayaks were yellow.

I never buy yellow surfboards.  Pretty sure there are some studies showing sharks attack yellow objects more often than others. Yum yum yellow.

All I could think of was "wow that ocean is calm!"

Kayak rental place down here at Half Moon Bay told me the sharks have a tendency to go after that flipper looking mirage drive more than paddle kayaks... I can say that did influence my choice a bit :)

Here's an interesting article from last year showing that statistically paddle kayaks are attacked more: http://www.kayakfishmag.com/features/paddle-vs-pedal-matter-great-white/

I have no idea what the ratio of paddlers to peddlers in general is out there.

Without the baseline ratio, conclusions are conjecture.  But it's fun to pick on the Hobies!  >:D

2015 Jackson Big Tuna (tandem) (dark forest)
2016 Hobie Outback LE (screamin' orange)
2014 KC Kayaks K12 (the better half's, in camo)
