I sure wish I lived closer!  I'd be all over this place.  ;D

Barb,
The Chetco is the safest bar to cross in Oregon and the launch is less than a quarter mile from the mouth.
We take the small Frenzy's across to bottom fish quite a bit, so I'm sure you and your boat are fine for the task.
The traffic in the mouth is the biggest worry, but not a problem if you pay attention and time between boats.
"Salmon Alley" is just outside the mouth and a very easy to do in a Yak troll, bring a flag so the PB's will see you.

Do you launch from the ramp? I looked around last time I was down there, and didnt see any other obvious spots, besides off of the docks maybe.

dockside launch it is.
I usually put in right next to one of the local commercial boats the "Miss Sarah" if she is in Port....if she is not, you have a good 20 yards of clear dock with two sides to launch from.
Just be respectful and avoid their gear and roll up their water hose after rinsing off on the dock.

I launched on the beach next to the south jetty about 8am. It was a fairly trivial surf launch. I trolled around the whistle and the bell, went north and south, deep and in close, for not a scratch.

I saw a couple 30+ fish caught and nets were in the air a fair amount today, but I couldn't buy a bite. I also saw a 6' thresher caught and released.

I was the only kayak I saw out today, but there is a pro angler hobie in the parking lot at the jetty.

Contemplating whether or not I want to stay tonight and give it another go tomorrow or not.
