Hello out there!

My lovely wife decided to surprise me with a new Kayak (Pescador Pilot 12.0) for our 5 year, and I decided I had better do as much research as possible before getting in a tight spot. I am a life-long Alaskan that enjoys salmon fishing, but will go for just about anything year around. I am way excited about the prospect of year round open water action.

Anywho, big shout out to Kardinal_84 for all of the information he puts out. I have learned a great deal from his experiences in the LCI and Homer area and can't wait to put research into practice.

I am also interested in anyone's setups on a Pescador Pilot 12.0 as I am trying to retrofit my own to do river and ocean stuff this summer. I also noticed that there hasn't been many posts on Kenai River fishing in particular, and I would like to change that if I can. I have spent a lot of time on boats floating from Skilak to Cunningham park, so I am thinking I can have some good success with a 'yak.

If there are any Alaska folk that read these new intro's and want to watch a newbie flop around, feel free to hit me up for a trip or 3!

Welcome to the forums.  Take some before and after pics of your rig.  I love seeing what people come up with for their yaks.  That looks like a heck of a sweet first kayak.  Fish finder is going to be your first real mod, I'm guessing, looking at the stock shots.  Those pedals look like they come way out so maybe look at what the hobie guys are doing for those side rail mount jobs.  If you don't have any rod holders, I have to say that I love my rod holders from Stealth but they're a bit narrow for big old boat rod type rod butts.  I have a few of each brand, they all have their pros and cons in a yak, especially if paddling.
Kayaking without wearing a PFD is like drunk driving.  You can get away with it for a while, but eventually someone dies.
