Garibaldi and I do. Love it Tillamook bay and 30 minutes from pacific city. Plus it is a fishing town.  :banjo:

Somewhere between Pacific City and Newport, so Lincoln city area?

Are you a single gentleman or do you have a spouse that enjoys shopping? Got any school age kids? Or are you just looking to move in closer proximity to fresh seafood? How do you feel about summer folks and the traffic cluster f*ck they bring with them? How about health insurance? Make sure that you have a provider on your plan nearby. Lots of little things to consider.

I guess it depends on whether you are looking for solitude or looking to join a community.

Langlois would suit me just fine. It's very nice and quiet and central to great fishing.

Garibaldi is nice.  So is Gearhart.  If I were to choose again, I'd be a lot further North.  At or above Newport, where there is easier and more direct access to the I-5 corridor.

Bear in mind that the entire coast of Oregon is considered "rural" and (or) "rural agricultural" and unless you like three hour drives to reach a city with more than a Wal-Mart, you need to stay north.  If you think you may ever need a hospital or significant medical care, stay north.  If you like to see and handle almost everything before buying it (ordering online, really), stay north.

I agree and disagree with Ling Banger: there are a lot of things to consider, but they aren't little things.  They get to be Great Big Issues real fast.

I'm glad I live on the coast.  I love it here, but I'd have chosen a different location if I'd have known then what I know now.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

I guess I should add that I would not live at the coast as my primary dwelling.  Rather a second home that I can base from during my season excursions.

I do the opposite.  I live in northern Humboldt in California and have property near Ashland.  I could live anywhere on the coast from here to Newport and be happy as long as I had some place within 3-4 hour drive to get away, get warm, get away from fog, go skiing, and the like, especially when the ocean is blown out.  Just need phone and reliable internet access for work.

The question posed is so wide open though.  Each of the towns on the coast is unique and has its own local character.  If I had to pick one for myself and I wasn't already rooted down here, I'd pick Newport.  Brookings, Florence and Coos Bay are all reasonable too.  Then I'd find inland property for my second home.

My dad lives in Manzanita and I really like that but  I want to go somewhere where I can go to surf spot to kayak fish within 30 minutes

Look no further, Pacific City has it all. Kayak fish to surf to brewery in less than a minute!
