Thanks for adding me to the group, I've learned a great deal from fellow members, especially Kardinal 84, yeah, I'm a lurker.  ;D

I've been gathering knowledge for the last 3 years in preparation for my first yak, a Native Slayer Propel 13 (sorry Hobie folks). By this coming weekend I plan to have my yak outfitted and all safety gear ready to go. I hope to get into the winter kings out of Homer on Christmas weekend, (kitchen pass pending); as well as the derby in March and the Classic in May.

I look forward to meeting and fishing with fellow Alaskans in the near future.

Thanks again,
AKFishOn.

Thanks, you may also know me as the dumb greenhorn who met you at Whiskey Gulch in a PA14 and got sicker than a dog after only an hour on the water.  ;D

The family and I are planning to spend Christmas in Homer this year. So, the 26th may be the maiden voyage of the AKFishOn Slayer! The tides are probably not going to be the best...coefficient of 91, so I assume the current will be pretty fast.

I'd rather have gotten into a lake for my first go in her, but...here we go again.

All the rest of my rigging should be here tonight so I'll be more than ready.

Big water movement is better in Homer.  The only place the current makes any difference is right off the very end of the spit.  fast current with strong winds cause standing waves that make it a PITA to fish.  The video is further away but at the end of the spit, the waves were twice as large.  Just tuck in closer to the condos and you will be okay.  se:

The prpooblem on Dec 26 is that high tide is at 2:48pm, meaning the best fishing is typically 2 hours after high tide to low tide....which will be in darkness since sunset that day is 4:08pm.  But you always have a chance but I wouldn't expect fast action.  I don't use the their fishiness scale but that's when I seem to catch the most fish.  http://www.tides4fishing.com/us/southcentral-alaska/homer-kachemak-bay

First light and last light is your best bet on Dec 26th, but the fish can be caught at any time as long as the bait is in the water.  YOu may have to go further offshore or towards the green can some more if water clarity is low near the shore.  That depends a lot on the previous days weather and how much junk the water stirs up.

Not sure what we will be doing but n hopefully its fishing.  But since my streak ended, I may go ice fishing instead.  We will see.

Welcome AKFishON -

Looking forward to seeing you on the water.

In homer I saw the same thing - huge water churning off the spit-end moorings, and big wave breaks down at the end of the condos.   Your launch and landing sweet spot is between them.    I will be gone for the holidays but will look for you in the new year.

Good Luck !!
