Those are really similar to the switchco brand one on my new box which are also IP68 rated.  I do like the sealing plugs better on the buccaneer though.    Thanks!

OK - Second power box is now done.  The panel turned out a bit better this time I think, and the wiring is a bit cleaner.   I dropped the voltmeter (didn't have one) and put in a second accessory outlet and an indicating rocker switch so I can turn the USB and Accessory outlet off, so NO LEDs to vampire away dribbles of current when not in use.

PDF attached has the parts, some notes, and schematic.
Second PDF is a scan of the actual panel (cutting board) as cut to fit.

I gotta see that one of these days. I need something like that bc I've been corroded too many times already.  And,  well,  my more crude methods ain't cutting it.

Our fishing schedule is Whittier Sunday 9th.   Seward 14-16th.   I might get out between but not sure.  Happy to show you in anch some time if you're around.

One last piece of wiring to do the cable end in my hobie, then field test.    I may make a camp light with cable end to match the panel connector or accessory socket - see what I have on hand.

I've been saving this thread for a while. I'm not savy with construction to your standards but  I'm researching and upgrade to my present waterproof box. I like the idea of the Bulging connector and will research a connector for my Lowrance 4 accessories line. I would like to quick disconnect the box and charge since I'm presently removing the battery every time for charging. I'd like to install a charge indicator as well. As  I've ordered a secon DC Outback for my wife and plan camping from the kayak I'm  considering a solar charger but haven't go r that far yet. At present I use an alligator clamp for charging but looking at changing if I do a quick connect.  Any ideas?

There are a lot of solar units out there now.   I think you can find some at Frigid North, and perhaps at the batteries plus, and there is a solar place off Dimond too.   Amazon has PowerFilm branded 13 watt roll-up panels that are cheaper than the 6 watt one I bought several years ago.   I have two solar cells, one a larger flat panel - a Brunton SolarFlat5 (not convenient to Kayak camp with as it is rigid, and 18" roughly square) and one that rolls up - a Brunton Solaris i6.   Both are 5 or 6 watts, and both are 4+ years old units so there is newer tech available with higher outputs for comparable or cheaper.

I like the the Solaris i6 that rolls/folds up as it compresses down to roughly 2"x4"x9" and unrolls to 29"x9".  It also came with various connectors - output of the Solaris i6 is rated at 15.4volts at 430 milli-amps.   SO - it takes quite a few hours to charge my 8 AH battery from full discharged!  I suppose in theory I could bring a couple, or leave one back at camp all day charging a spare battery so I can take the waterproof box etc out on the yak.

I know there are voltmeter/charge indicators available on e-bay similar to the one inside the first box I built, but didn't look too hard to find one that would mount on exterior of the box - that'd be a nice to have feature but would put the box integrity at risk... so inside it went.  This is similar:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-12-Volt-Marine-Trolling-Motor-Battery-Indicator-Charge-Status-Power-Meter-/171852864505?hash=item28033a9bf9&vxp=mtr

For my charging, I have ordered matching SwitchCo connectors so I can connect charger and solar unit directly to my fish finder connection on the side of the box - so long as I don't get carried away with solar panel size (not more than 30 watts)  I can back-feed through the 3Amp FF fuse to charge the battery with out opening the box.   I'd get less current in the rain, but the connections and such would all be secure.

Send me a PM Jmbx2ditto if you want to check out the box etc in ANCH or chat further.  Happy to help you out.

I'll post this here and on a Whiskey Gulch thread as well.

Prototype 3 of AKRiders Powerbox (TM) is now done, and looks a bit better with a more secure fit and a better panel layout.  This one was built to be a prize for the 2016 Whiskey Gulch Kayak Fishing Tournament - I am sure Cardinal84 will correct me, but I think it will be the 4th Annual NWKA Whiskey Gulch Yak Classic.    SO - K-84 as promised earlier, here is a peek at the prize*...

* Note that the picture shows one of my batteries - so the disclaimer has to be that the SLA is NOT included.    If the one I found on the beach this last year still remains unclaimed, so I suppose I could recycle it back into use by including that one if no one steps forward.

OK - as promised, and to close this thread, here is the link to the Drillin and Cuttin board with the updated (REV.3) AKRider Powerbox

I put together a "How to", parts list, schematic, and put it up in the right section.   So, for those of you who asked... here it is.
