I thought I had a junky reel.turns out it was a lack of knowledge and understanding of how a line counter works. I have only used my reel one time several years ago and I threw some left over braid on it and thought it was set. Yesterday I ran across this video while looking at something else and the lightbulb and Dumbass alarm started going off.just got to wait for the snow to stop so I can get on track.

Ditto on the video being a great find.

I bet in a few years when a greater variety of digital display line counters hit the market, they will have a calibration mode to accommodate the great variety of line thicknesses people might load on them.   I can see where it could even know after so many feet, you are now hitting backer line of a different thickness and it accommodates for that even.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I just calibrate by watching my line counter and FF at the same time while bottom fishing on days where the current/wind is not so bad.  Keep the reel fully spooled for any accuracy.

Wouldn't it just be easier to use  a line counter that attaches to your rod and has the line slide through it?  I've never used either so I'm curious.
