I decided to give my shoulder a break from kayak paddling and punish it with some rowing instead. I took my 9' pontoon down the upper Kenai. I had the river all to myself and even managed to catch a few fish; one chunky 14" rainbow and three silvers.  I got on the water at sunrise and had hiked the 3.5 miles back to the truck before dark. Perfect timing!

Nice catch, Low_Sky!  It's fun to hear there's still silvers in the Upper.  But a 3.5 mile hike back to the truck?  I'm local in Cooper Landing and would be happy to give you a lift if I'm in town.  We'll have to exchange contact info the next time we meet.  Maybe Odie's on the 19th?

Thanks Keen-eye! Walking was all part of the plan. I need the exercise! It probably wouldn't be a great idea with summer traffic, but no big deal in the winter.

That walk was a whole lot more pleasant than the time I hiked back up the B section of the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam in Utah. 6 miles up and down over steep rocky hills covered in piñon pine and cactus... What looked like a pipeline easement on satellite imagery turned out to be a telephone wire. Not fun!

I moved up here from Utah last year. I lived an hour from Flaming Gorge, but only fished there a few times (during the week, in the off season, I don't like crowds). I always had way more fun up in the Uintas or going to Wyoming.
