Hey Guys,

I joined NWKA about 6 months ago and have been quietly lurking around because i live out of the area.  I have been part of NCKA (NorCal) for the last 6 months as well and have contributed to their forum.  Anyways, I am making the move from California back to my hometown of Beaverton, OR in the next month or so.  I purchased a Ocean Kayak Big Game Prowler a while back and have been hooked on the sport.  I grew up fishing on the bank for steelhead/salmon/sturgeon/ and bass.  I am not the greatest fisherman but love to be out on the water as i find it very relaxing.  I am hoping once i make the move back i will be able to meet new friends through Kayak fishing.

I have only been fishing a few times on the kayak around Monterrey area for lingcod and other rock fish.  However, it has been a dream of mine to catch a steelhead/salmon on the yak.  Another dream is to take a sleigh ride with a sturgeon.

A few things about myself:  I am 26 years old and I am currently an accountant for one of the largest wineries in the world.  However, i am looking for work in the portland area.  I will be flying up to Portland tonight for a few interviews tomorrow.  I recently had a baby girl and that is one of the reasons why I am moving back to Portland (to be closer to my family).  I grew up on a small lake (Summer Lake in Beaverton) and fished it nearly every day growing up.  I am typically a reserved guy and usually am quiet around new people (mainly because i have a speech impediment).  However, once i get to know someone, i open up and am quite talkative.  I grew up as a Seahawks fan and love the Pacific NorthWest.

Anyways, I hope to learn from everyone on the board and look forward to possibly fishing with some of you!  If you have any questions about me, feel free to ask.

Welcome home, Zach! If I can catch a salmon from a kayak, anyone can. :) There's a lot of good helpful people on here. Springer season is coming...

Thank you RedBeard for the welcome!  I just watched your bass video for the June tournament and was impressed!  I look forward to the Springer season!  When does it start to get in full swing?  I hope to make it to a few tournaments to meet new people.  Like I said earlier, I am not the greatest fisherman so i dont plan on winning anything, but who knows i might get lucky  :)

Thanks, I appreciate that. The tourneys are a great place to meet people and generally have a good time. And most of them are structured in such a way that you've got a shot to win even if you're not super confident.

As far as springer season I am pretty far from a salmon authority, but I live within earshot of the Willamette and I know that starting in March I usually hear a whole lot of boats out there. I'm sure the farther "down" in the system you fish the earlier you can find fish. This might be helpful:

Hey Mojo Jojo,

Thanks for the welcoming!  In the past i went to Garibaldi to fish with my father on a guided halibut trip and had a blast.  When i get out that way i will definitely PM you to see if you can make it.

Welcome home! Ocean Big Game Prowlers are awesome rigs I should know I have one and love it. If I can catch salmon with a fly pole you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks for the welcome!  I am excited to be leaving the dry flat valet and returning to home!!!!  I have fly fished in the past but never from a kayak. I am sure it is a unique experience.

Welcome Zach!  I am in Cornelius and have been spending some time on Hagg Lake trying to figure out this new winter fishery.  So far its been pretty slow but just getting out on the water has been nice.  Hit me up if you ever want to get out on the lake.

Hey hdwipmonkey,

I  would definitely join you at hagg lake. I have fished there in the past when younger but only from the bank. I would be happy to try and learn the winter fishery there with you. I am happy that it is now open year around!  I will definitely send you a message when I move back and we can hit the lake!
