So after two and a half months off from all fishing, decided I better get back on the water.

Day 1 was physically brutal.  Can't just jump back in after such a long break and try to fish all day.

But I appreciate the information shared on the forums.  After not much luck with the kings, I take everyone who has posted here's advice and try halibut.  Start in about 100 ft, slowly worked my way to 150 ft off the condos.  Managed 5 halibut, a giant P-Cod, and a pollock.  All the halibut were tiny with the biggest going 10 pounds.  Not much fight to them and 2 of the three I kept over both days were a little bit chalky.

Day 2 I get some intel from 3 or 4 sources and it seems like everyone is fishing the bottom of the water column.  Acting on the tips, I start deep in 80 to 90 ft of water fishing the lower 10 ft of the water column.

After seeing a few good marks at 60 then 40 ft, I crank up my down rigger to 40 ft.  I then pick up my rod to reel in the slack from bringing the down rigger weight up and once the line goes tight...FISH ON!  Sweet.

Managed another small halibut afterwards but then ran into a huge group of pollock. Couldn't keep them off the line whether I tried halibut deep or kings trolling.

Still a king and 3 halibut kept in about 7 total hours of fishing isn't too shabby for mid February!

I also had a nice long chat with Atz Kilcher again and he is going to pitch his reality show producers an episode of kayak fishing on the show "Alaska:The Last Frontier"  I told him that I am sure I can get one of us if not me to take him out.  We exchanged numbers and hopefully we get that opportunity.  Be kinda interesting to see how its done.

Strong work Rudy! Thanks for the report, gives me some hope for this weekend.
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga except I get to kill something.
