I'm going to be staying down in Manzanita from 4-1 to 4-3.  Probably won't bring the kayak (you never know) but I was wondering if you had any suggestions for bank fishing for salmon near Nehalem Bay.  Seems like I'm a bit early for salmon but I don't really know since I live in WA.  Salmon projections in WA for the upcoming season are terrible and it seems we can't keep anything in Puget Sound anymore.  It would be nice to catch something this year.

Maybe rockfish, lings, etc. are more realistic for this time of year down on the OR coast?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy,

Wheeler has a small public dock that could get you some access. There's also at least three other docks/marinas along the 101, towards the mouth of the bay, but they're pay to play.

Good luck!

The thing about Nehalem river is it is tidal fir several miles up so you gotta scout your bank locations with that in mind.

Or the dock in wheeler or at the county boat ramp (pay for parking)

Barview Jetty isn't that much of a drive south from Nehalem and you can cast from the rocks.
"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."

'Barview Jetty isn't that much of a drive south from Nehalem and you can cast from the rocks.'

Are there any sweet spots on Barview jetty or is it pretty much the same everywhere?  It looks pretty uniform except where it bends south it seems to get a bit more shallow.

Thank you all for the info.

Well the dock in wheeler will put you on the water but a busy spot. I have personally watch someone pull a fall salmon from the dock on a mepps spinner. From a kayak it's a great spot, caught my first yak salmon not far from that dock.
 The rocks on the jetti at Tillamook are good to for rockfish, and you can walk out on the rocks and have a little more room to play
