Starting Friday we can run TWO rods on the Willy while fishing for springers!  Who's ready for some bodacious tangles?!  I know I am.   ;D

A two-rod endorsement is needed.  Buy one online at ODFW's website.

I am thinking tandem on anchor with 4 rods.

I so want to see this - but it has to be you and Langston together!  I'll even offer up the Oasis for this to happen.  I don't even want to fish - just want to watch!!!

A little more seriously, been pondering the logistics of this.  Doable in a pedal kayak while trolling - in the event of a take down on ONE rod, keep pedaling while taking up the other line.  Then land your fish.  On anchor???

This could be a game changer for a lot of guys. I typically see a lot of boats filled with folks reading and not doing much while one guy (or girl) is tending all the lines, working the kicker, etc. I always figure it's just because he wants more lines in the water so he brings family or friends with licenses just to use the extra poles.

Yeah that!  At least until I prove to myself that I'm not coordinated enough to troll and paddle at the same time.

The big benefit I see is that I'll be able to troll at two different depths.  What I'm afraid of is what happens when you snag on something or when you hook up.....or when you hook up 2!!!

This is going to be interesting...I don't think I have the coordination to pull it off.  Kinda sounds like juggling on a unicycle to me.   :)

Well boys in idaho we can buy a 2 pole permit, I have been trolling and fishing with two rods for yrs!
It's not as bad as it sounds especially with a pedal drive. I have had doubles many times, keep pedaling and reel the first one in while you kept an eye on the bendo action on the other, guick with the net and on to the next rod!
When I'm not trolling I usually always have what I call the "hanger". One rod in my hands and one in the rod holder just dangling, you would be surprised how many fish the hanger catches! And it's alway when your hands are full!

I don't see this to be a catching problem for me, as I can't even catch one on one pole.

However, I think it would be doable on anchor with the AI, as I could set the rod holders out on the aka's to get them further apart than just normal kayak wide.

I tried the two rod in a paddle kayak when it first came out for lakes, and that sucked trying to paddle and not get tangled when one fish turned me sideways while reeling him in.

I've used 2 rods for trout, with one either on the bottom or under a float, but still fishing. The other rod is pulling a spinner or twitching a jig or some other active fishing technique.

The main value of this is it keeps your mitts off the still pole until the fish hooks itself. I always catch more on the still pole than the active, and I always catch more this way than if I just throw one out and try to leave it alone.

So I could see plunking one rod and then throwing spinners with the other. And I suppose I could see trolling two rods.

I should live so long as to worry what to do if both poles go under at the same time.

Get video.  Ought to be a hoot. For an inkling of what its like check out the Uyeda brothers on YouTube.  They run quite a number of rods off their tandem island.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

I run 2 all the time kokanee fishing...one on the downrigger, one long line.Great fun, especially with the doubles.
But this is a whole 'nother thing. Speaking of Willamette only,we're talking springers here...the problem I have with these guys is that alot of them get close to the boat right away , full of piss and vinegar. Seems as though the fall fish want to run away, peel line.Seems like the springers require more maneuvering of the boat. Don't know how I'm gonna get that other line out of the water with a springer raising hell at the boat. Sounds like a huge mess with a chance at losing a springer.
That being said,I'm still totally doing it!
