What fishing opportunities can you suggest in the Corvallis area during the next three weeks?  I need to travel to Corvallis for family reasons, and am trying to decide whether to (a) fly there, just do family stuff, and come back later for a week or so of fishing, or (b) drive there with a load of fishing gear and try to mix in some fishing with the family stuff.  Unfortunately the family stuff doesn't fit in well with the May Day event.

You could fish saltwater species in Yaquina Bay at Newport. It's about an hour drive from Corvallis.

depending what you want to fish for there are lots of opportunities around. I live in albany(nextra door neighbor to corvallis). you can drive a hour or so east and fish green peter for kokanee. just below green peter is foster reservoir which has kokanee, bass, stocked trout, and perch(still about a hour away). Newport is a short 45 minute drive east towards the coast. depending when you are here I m8ght be able to go out with you.

Got to get ya salty Peter! (haha... see what I did there?)
No down rigger needed either.

Day trips from Corvallis depend on how much of a road warrior you are.
Yaquina Bay (fish along S.jetty), Depoe Bay (short shot across the bar to the ocean), Tillamook Bay (inside the jaws), Sunset Bay (Roger just posted some great photos of Simpson Reef trip).  Pacific City beach launch.

There's lakes: By tomorrow, the high lakes will be open for kokanee, so all of Central Oregon would be possible by day trip from Corvallis (not sure about snow and road closures yet).  Wickiup, Odell/Crescent (already open), Diamond (rainbow trout mostly).  I wouldn't bother with Green Peter (kokes are dinky 6-7").  Detroit Reservoir can be productive for kokes/trout.

THere's  always a chance at catching a spring chinook in the Willamette...

If you want to bring the family.  There is a small lake to fish with trout that is stocked by odfw. EE Wilson lake is about 15 min out of town and is good fishing.  Also a great chance to see osprey catch fish.  It is not uncommon to see 15-20 dives in a fishing afternoon.

This is not the greatest lake for kayaking due to the small size fo the lake and the small hike to the lake from the parking lot

Ok Pmmpete with that many options and all the characters and cards that will be trying to get even half an hour on the water with ya, if you don't bring the gear we might hunt you down and take turns smiting your arse with our boat paddles.. >:D.. If not for the shear pleasure of fishing Oregon think about how sore and uncomfortable the plane ride is going to be after that many slaps with plastic and fiberglass.  ;D

I'm going to be in the Corvallis area from Saturday, May 7, to Saturday, May 14, for some family stuff which will tie me up for most of that time.  I've decided that it makes more sense to fly to Oregon for this week.  If I can sneak away from the family stuff, I'll try to hook up with some of the local kayak anglers for a bit of fishing in the Corvallis area.  I'll bring dry pants and other clothing, but hope I can borrow a kayak and a bit of fishing gear.  Later in the summer, I want to drive to Oregon with my kayak and other fishing gear for a week of fishing, probably in connection with ORC. So please don't spank me when I come out in May.  I had intended to come out for TMD, but that hasn't worked out.

The family stuff is that my dad has been diagnosed with cancer, which fortunately was found early, and I'll be driving him from Corvallis to Salem for radiation treatment appointments during the week.

Alright since your coming back no whooping and I'll check the tides for the bay and give you some options and your welcome to ride one of my boats if the 2 hr one way isn't too bad of a drive and if someone can grab one and return it your welcome to borrow either one of my boats.

Sad to hear about your Dad, Pete.  Glad it was found early.  Positive thoughts for his quick and complete recovery.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
