Simpson Reef 4/20: I don't remember ordering a huge 'cab'...

I finally made it to Simpson Reef, early on 4/20, sort of crappy mixed swell but I quickly found a school of big Blacks and put 4 in the 17"-18" size into the boat.  Had a nice whale encounter heading back to Sunset Bay and then I hooked into what I thought was my first ever Ling...

but alas, it was just a big heavy Cabazon...this thing was a tank and I released it fairly quickly, about 26"; felt like 15 pounds to me...cheers, roger

Looks like an amazing day!  Congrats on the fish!  I bet that whale encounter was neat.  I am still waiting to have my first one!  I too have never caught a ling, I am hoping ORC will change that!
