I'm just wondering if there is anyone else in the Corvallis area that goes steelhead fishing from their kayak. I did great last summer catching rockfish in the ocean and i did surprisingly well this winter catching steelhead from the bank. BUT i really really want to catch some steelhead and salmon from my kayak.   Having to bike my own shuttle is kind of a bummer. It would be awesome if anybody else wanted to team up to make the shuttle a little easier. Mostly Sat and Sundays but i could be interested in doing a short run after work.  Reply here or in pm if you're interested. Thanks  :)

A timely e-mail.  From Saturday, May 7, through Saturday, May 14, I'll be in Corvallis for some family stuff.  In between my family obligations, I'm planning to hook up with C_Run for some salmon fishing on the Willamette in the Corvallis-Salem area.  I'm flying in, so C_Run has offered to lend me a kayak and other gear for the week.  I'll send you a PM with more about my schedule and availability.

Is there any sturgeon fishing in the Corvallis area?

Not sure of your schedule Pete but I think PC might be doable a few days later in the week. We're shooting for Thursday and Saturday. Hope to see you before you head back to Big Sky Country.

Pete, i sent you a pm.  I'd be jealous if you guys made it out in the ocean. :)  I think it might still be a little early but i'd love to float the Siletz, Alsea, Santiam, Mckenzie etc for some steelhead.  I'm going to try kokanee fishing today.

Not sure of the regulations for whether sturgeon is open or not... But one very popular place to fish for sturgeon is to launch from George Rogers Park in lake Oswego (about 80miles North of Corvallis). Just up river from the park is a huge cement structure - near there is a deep sturgeon hole.  During the chinook showdown in mid-April, I was fishing there and saw quite a few sturgeon jumping! Willamette River downstream from Oregon city falls, up River from railroad bridge (I think that's the region description in the regulations).

There are some around here, too, but not like at Portland. ;)

I've never fished it but there is reportedly a sturgeon hole in Corvallis, abeam the Post Office in midtown.  Put in at Willamette Boat Landing and take out at North Riverfront Park.  The water flow this past year may have moved the gravel around abit so can't verify exact location of the hole.  Good luck.

would be fun to try some LOCAL waters....  Had no idea there were sturgeon near the Corvallis Post Office/Willamette.  I've kayaked there many times....never fished it though.

I heard reports of Sturgeon in the S Willy a couple of years ago and connected with a PB dude who also wanted to give it a try. We fished in a hole just N of where the Long Tom enters the Willamette S of Corvalis. Spent only 2-3 hours fishing but I brought in a 32" shaker, so there definitely be dinos in that part of the river. Just a matter of spending the time to find them.
