Been hearing some good fish reports coming from friends about the Coquille River, so Thursday decided to some smallmouth bass fishing .The weather wasn't that great at first but put in below Myrtle Point and drifted down about a mile caught a few here and there nothing to brag about. Paddled back upstream a few miles and drifted down, by this time the sun had came out and the world had turn upside down with smallies. They where to the right of me- to the left of me-in front of me- behind me. For the next 6 hrs. it was non stop action. I would drift down casting towards shore and the fish were going nuts, go about 2- 300 yards and paddle back up and repeat. Lost count after about the 40th fish with triple that many lost due to pulling the fly out of their mouth or them spitting the fly out. The fish ranged from 9 in. to 15in. with a lot of fish being seen/ lost in the 20 + in. size. Got some pictures but gave up after awhile with the fishing being what is was. On a grand note about 20 miles down river a couple of days before a friend caught the unicorn of Oregon fishes a 61 1/4 lb. striped bass. Now before we get all work up and excited! 1 Yes I have seen the picture. 2-This person catches fish in the 40 to 50 lb. range on a regular basis. 3- He only fishes during the day(from a boat) 4-He likes to use musky plugs. 5He is very closed mouth about his fishing, except this time someone saw him and thought he was battling a large salmon and wondered over to see if he needed help to net the fish.

No problem Barb, the first one is Hickman's skiddish smolt tied on a tube with a circle hook about 3 1/2 in. long and the second one is Hud's bushwacker all white tied on a Gamakatsu 1/0 worm hook about 4 in. long.
