Went to the Strait with my pal Rob and his new Hobie Revo.  We drove up Friday, stopped in Sekiu for herring. Saw some guys bring in some really nice bright silvers, about 10-14# at the dock, and drove back to launch at  Whiskey Creek.  Did not get out on the salt until 4:00, the PM wind started picking up around 5:30, Rob caught about an 18 inch china Rockfish, very pretty but returned to the salt.  We wanted to get out into the 300-400 foot depth for the coho, but at this location is stays shallow pretty far out, and the VHF was talking about  wind advisory in the Strait, so we headed back in through the extensive kelp beds.   We were about 1/2 mile out, and only 100 feet deep!
"We'll get them in the AM, it might be calm", I said to meself.  Woke at 0600 and the fog was pea-soup thick and the VHF said 10-20 knots.!!  Slight breeze, but could not even see the shore from our cabin porch.  Decided to head for Port Angeles, but when we got there, there was still a good fog bank offshore, and breezy, so we headed for Discovery Bay, which was calm and pretty.  Trolled herring for a couple or 3 hours, Rob got out to the entrance to the bay and had 3 Dall's porpoises come and play with him, at one point they were about 15 feet from his yak!!  Neither of us had thought to bring a camera, so no fish or porpoise porn.  A disappointment for me---no phish, but we came back safe and sound and had some nice pedalling.  Looks like the silvers are finally making a showing after a dismal summer, hope they're headed for the local rivers!
I bought a Sanyo waterproof video/still cam from Craigslist, should have it this week.

Thanks for the report KT. Sounds like one of those trips where things outside of your control took things over. Too bad about that but getting out there with all the wild life still sounded really fun.
