You won't regret a Kokatat angler suit.  If you can find one on sale, it'll just be a small stretch of your budget instead of a big one.

Dont mistake a "splash top" for a semi-dry top. These might have neoprene cuffs and neck which would be ok, but just a drawstring waist. Not good enough.

The "rules" son't say, but a wetsuit jacket may qualify as well, at least with a farmer john or dry bottoms, but probably not with waders.

A number of NWKA members use and prefer wetsuits, and if you have one that fits comfortably and is adequate for the cold water you anticipate, you don't have to rush out and get a dry suit right now.

Before you start shopping for dry suits, run the sizing tool on the Kokatat website in their "Custom" dry suit section.  I'm pretty darned happy I bought an Angler in the size the tool recommended for me, or I'd have ordered one that would have been too small.

If you have a good Goodwill store near you, look for polyester sweat suits for your under/base layers.  Sierra Trading Post usually has base layers for $15 (or less) per piece and so far, the ones I got there have been holding up well.

Good luck!

I am on the 'all wool' team:

these guys run fantastic sales, I've got most my stuff for 70% off by getting on their e-mail list and being patient, camo stuff goes cheap all the time, big sales when they change colors of stuff:  http://www.icebreaker.com/

and I love these wool 'People Socks':  https://www.amazon.com/4pairs-Socks-2pairs-X1pair-Mixed/dp/B009Y9QCCS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467242838&sr=8-1&keywords=people+socks

and I checked my orders, got the Ika leggings for $30 and Ika long sleeve top for $24.    full price on both is $99.  100% merino wool.

looks like a camo version of the leggings is on for that now:  http://www.icebreaker.com/en/mens-baselayers/ika-leggings-w-fly-mossy-oak/101354_WS.html?dwvar_101354__WS_color=M45

Your probably right about the super nova. Is that comfortable enough in warm weather? Any suggestions on where to get one for the best price?

my coastal experience is that it is not too hot except out in full sun with temp above about 70F...if I get warm I drop legs into the water.  I also wear light merino wool base layers top and bottom that keep me warm and cool...I have worn mine on outings as long as 7 hours, I think the Kokatat "generic gortex" is quite good and breathes.

+1 my thoughts exactly

Got mine from Kayak Academy few years back. They usually have sales or discontinued items. Just saw a Kokatat Tropos super nova with relief zipper for 415. Think this is the same one I got. No problems. Check sale items.-jed
Last year I got my SuperNova Angler on a lucky closeout at Kayak Academy.  Give them a call to see what they have in stock.
