Anything VHF and waterproof will be good enough for the tournament.  Standard Horizon is a popular brand.

This one includes GPS and DSC calling:

Best I have found is the icom m-88. Unparalleled battery life, good transmission power, and a small profile that fits in a pocket or is not in the way if you need to set a hook and leave it dangling. I can fish a couple of full days on a charge and the indicator still says 3 bars.

You won't regret a Standard Horizon either but the battery is about half as long lasting.

If you wear a PFD religiously and use a good tether there is no call for radios that float and the extra bulk that allows them to do so.
