I punched a hole in my kayak when I puted the wheel into the two scupper holders, which went un-noticed, and my kayak sunk in the water.  I patched the hole myself and I tried it a few weeks ago.  The question is, do I still need to check for a leak before I go out, or once patched, will it hold?

Common sense tells me that you should always be mindful of your repair until you no longer have this kayak or you have confidence in your repair skills.

I would definitely be mindful of it, especially when going out any further than you're willing to swim back to shore. I think it goes without saying but I would be sure to wear my PFD at all times especially with the sinking issue.

If your kayak is a sit on top and does not have any flotation.....I sure would stuff the inside with pool noodles...cheap insurance to prevent total sinking of the kayak.

How did you make the repair?  If you have to ask if you can have confidence in your repair, you probably shouldn't trust it.  As others recommended, make sure you have flotation foam inside your boat, have a bilge pump or sponge on board in case it leaks at a slow rate, and don't go farther than you want to swim in case of a catastrophic failure.  Occasional peeks inside the hatch while you're on the water are going to be a good idea.

Thank you for all good advises. I patch the hold using a big piece of plastic (3 times the hold size) and melt it with a heat gun and use a solder iron to sooth it out and make sure it is melted with the kayak plastic, I try it one and the leak hold. When the predator 13 sunk, it still floats under the surface with the haul full of water. I did build the stabilizes but never put on the Kayak, thinking of the interference with the paddle. If I ever go the sea for fishing which is years away, I will put the stabilizers on. I usually go out about 100 feet from shore and always wear PFD. Thank again for the good advises.
