hi all. i have been doing a bit of kayak fishing lately, and staying out longer, and have come to the conclusion that my trident 13 seat is not for me. my back and rear end hurt!!  does any body have any recommendations for a kayak seat? i have been looking at GTS Expedition Molded Foam Kayak Seat - Fishing Pack. kind of expensive but not compared to what i have already spent  ;D.

Yup, that's the one to look into.  Even the non lawn chair Hobies (pre 2015) suck for long lengths of time for the bigger folks (like me).

I went with the Surf to Summit Airwave for my T13 back in 2009 and it was a huge improvement. That one is no longer available, so when I needed a new seat for my 2010 Revo 13, and 2013 Addy Island, I went with the Surf to Summit GTS Exped. Yes spendy, but well worth it.

Turns out the damn Addy Island was still difficult to get long term comfort out of the GTS seat due to how the seat area is designed.  A few tweaks here and ther on the seat and I'm good now. Pulled several 8 hour day ocean trips with this setup now and so far no issues.

Yep, the Surf to Summit seats are as good as they get without upgrading your boat to something with a camp chair style seat. I personally like the Elite  model.

Not sure if yours will accept a chair seat but I can go all day in comfort with my Jackson cuda seat

I paddled whole season in Fellfree Kingfisher, awesome seat, in my opinion it is even better than fancy Wilderness seat I am paddling now. Should fits most kayaks https://www.austinkayak.com/products/8701/Feelfree-Kingfisher-Kayak-seat.html

Does the STS expedition seat need to be modified to fit in a hobie?

Depends on which Hobie model.  I installed one on CBY's several years ago and didn't hear of any complaints. My Revo didn't have issues either. But the Adventure hull IMO does have an issue due to the low seat butt area is, and how it tries to fold a big guy like me in half.

If I wanted to relieve this taco affect, I had to adjust the front straps so that the back would lay back more.  However, this was trumped by the seat bottom sliding forward as there wasn't really a lower place to mount the front pad eyes to combat this issue.

My fix was to add the Hobie seat pegs to keep it from sliding. Although this fixed that particular problem, a new one cropped up.

If I leaned back to long or too hard the seat would eventually flex mid back and start to collapse backward on me. This is still due to the fact we can't get a lower front pad eye to hold the back rest up.

To finally fix this issue, I added a pair of 1/4" stainless steel rods up through the loops in the yellow straps on the back of the seat.  Problem gone, as the seat can still wrap around me, but cannot collapse mid back.

I also added a self inflating tree stand seat pad to use as adjustable lumbar support.

Mucho mo' betta!

Cant say enough about the Pacific Angler seat from Danuu.  Nice tall back that is cut away in shoulder area, thick foam pad, solid construction, and a bunch of goodies on seat back.  My favorite aftermarket seat by far.

Ordered the GTS Expedition seat today.  Hope that cures my wanting to get a new Hobie.
