Hobie Toggle handles

My front toggle handle is getting a bit worse for the wear and I am starting to get worried about it breaking while I am pulling it. Rather than replacing it with the same thing I am wondering if anyone else has dreamed up anything better? I am thinking I would like it a little longer so as to make it easier to pull with the cart, and with the sailing rudder it's almost impossible to lift the kayak and have the rudder stowed in the up position which can lead to some issues when I am letting it down and the rudder drops... I am thinking of simply getting some 1/2" SCH 80 PVC and paracord and making my own, but with all the crafty minds of the group was wondering if anyone had thought of anything better.

That's exactly what I did for a previous boat and it worked great. I think I ended up giving it to UplandSandpiper when his broke at a launch one day.

Pretty much every time we lift the Oasis loaded with gear I'm just expecting that line to break... so heavy... 

Matt, go with your plan.  It is pretty much what Cobra kayaks provided from the factory.

The handle itself is 86 cents. When the rope eventually breaks, you tie a new one on. Hobie conveniently makes it so you can't do that.
