I'm Razz, recently retired from Seattle and now a resident of Gold Beach. Last week I purchased a Hobie PA 14. Saturday I went out bottom fishing thru Gold Beach harbor, had a great time, and even caught fish. I thought it would be nice to have some fishing buddies, so here I am. If anyone is in the same "boat" give me a shout. Thanks, and hope to meet some of you soon.

Welcome to the forums Razz!! Gold beach is a little far from me here but it's on the list of places to visit!! I know there are others on the forums closer. As you post more some of the reports and things will open up on the forums so be on the lookout. Often times if the conditions are favorable you will see people posting up about trips too.

Welcome, I'm pretty new myself and in Kent.  Tough to fish during the week but the coho are in lake WA and there's enough boats around it's not a bad place to solo fish and get things figured out, especially with your rig.  There are places to put in on Sand Point north of the UW.  I tried in the 30 MPH gusty gale last Saturday and felt somewhat lucky to get out with my gear and one perch.  Fishing isn't complicated and it's a slow enough pace it's good to learn some things, especially if you tie into a coho.

A few are headed for the Pot Holes to try for some walleye on Saturday. Always open to team up some time in fresh or salt.

Thanks for the welcome Matt, Trident, and C_Run. I'll agree that Portland is a bit of a journey from Gold Beach. How far are you from Pacific City?
Trident did you launch at Magnuson Park? I took my dog there often for the off leash area. At least in Lake Washington there is no surf to deal with. I know a guy who trolls the lake for cut throat and usually catches some so you might look into that.
C_Run, no I have not been on the Oregon fishing forum. Thanks again for the response everyone and good luck out there.

Welcome to the group Razz. I'm working on the new hospital down there. I fished the Rogue for most of August. It's a fun river to fish. Have you tried for salmon out there yet?

Howdy Razz.

I am planning a trip to the area in the next couple weeks.  Chetco bubble if the ocean cooperates, Rogue if it doesn't.

Ling ling, thanks for the welcome, and yes I have fished the Rogue several times. I went at first light in my pontoon boat before the crowd showed up. Fishing the Rogue later in the day reminds me too much of driving in Seattle during rush hour, ( one of the reasons for moving here ). I did not get any fish of any size, I was fishing near Indian Creek, the juveniles liked my spinner alot.

Crash, if you don't mind a noob tagging along give me a shout when you come, hopefully the ocean will behave itself.

There's a reason that the crowds are out at the times that they are on the rogue.  THat's when the fish are there.  Go battle the crowds, they are only trolling at 0.8 kts and everyone moves in an orderly counterclockwise direction for the most part.

You're welcome to come along, fishing is right outside the jetties.  There will be 200+ boats out there though if the ocean is good.

Visiting the Gold Beach area and thinking about retiring here one day! I have a 14' Hobie PA also! Was thinking all day that the waters were prime for kayak fishing out of the harbor. It is intimidating trying to navigate the sleds in the harbor for salmon! Thinking about visiting again next year in August and bring up my yak! Going fishing in the bay next couple of days on a drift boat and then do some ocean fishing Sunday on a charter.

Don't be too overly concerned about most boats while salmon trolling, I would however fly a flag though if in an area where boats may have trouble seeing you. You will definitely be the talk of most of the fisherman as they pass by you. I have found most fisherman to be friendly and I even netted a nice salmon for a guy who was having issues while fishing alone.

Earlyo1, I have seen kayak anglers fishing the bay for salmon, I have not done so. I can say that I was not worried by the boats when I went thru the bay on my way to and from the ocean. Jim at the Escape Hatch told me the kayak guys were doing well fishing the bay. If you bring your yak next year
give me a shout, maybe we can do some fishing in the bay and ocean.
