A few months back we moved really close to the Tualatin River and I've been interested in trying to see what lives in it. I've also been playing around with a simple set up to record underwater footage, basically just a go pro stuck to a down rigger weight. I took about an hour of footage last weekend and this was the most interesting stretch. The first fish I see is a blue gill followed by what I think is a pikeminnow but I'm not really sure. Then a few suckers and another pikeminnow? Around 115 there is another fish that I think might be another pikeminnow or trout? On the day I took this footage I caught a few smallmouth, a whitefish, and saw a large mouth and coho also caught. So there is a pretty good amount of variety in the river.

I believe it's a pikeminnow.  Cool footage btw.
I have taken my hobie out in the Tualatin a few times now and caught some carp near Rood bridge park. Where are you putting in at?

Cooks Park. How deep is it up by Rood Bridge? I've thought about trying to do some sort of float in the Hobie but I wasn't sure how deep it was up that way.

Most of the trip is probably less than about 6 to 10 feet.... I hit my mirage drive a time or two not paying attention! There are a few places that were pretty deep though.
Also,if you put in at Rood bridge, it's not a "through passage" yet. I expect it to clear and open up once the water level comes up a little.

Looks like a sunfish and a bunch of chubs.

What do I win?

I can see you and your cousin bowfishing for carp if you had a kayak to stand on.

The longer fish at approx. 40 secs. looks like a river sucker to me (position and shape of mouth).

Glad you got this video up - looks good! I hope to see more. You're inspiring me to do something similar. I should have done it this summer at one of my bass spots on the Willamette. We had outstanding water clarity there for quite a while.

Noah, can you post a picture of the way you attached the go pro to the weight?

On closer look, I think the Cap'n is right.

Did you also notice the largemouth that darts across the top of the sunfish early in the clip?

Yes! River largemouth are somewhat of a mystery to me. When I catch them they seem to fight great, but I can't seem to really target them.

Here you go. It's pretty low tech.
