To the Homer Poly Fleet:  There are still some decent size halibut laying in wait of a tempting offering within a stone's throw of Homer and the Spit.  This haul was caught on Sunday 10/16 and the guys were back in the harbor at 4:30pm for this pic before the blow started picking up. Everything taken by TROLLING in shallow water! Seriously folks. Shane (a longtime fishing/hunting friend) frequently does nothing but trolling when he has a salmon/halibut combo if both species are in the same location and always brings home the bacon. There's a nice cod in the bunch too. So its still possible to land some nice flatties if you hold your rod the right way as well as the kings. :)

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Wow! I'd like to know more about that. I could use a small halibut or two. I just fed 15 people halibut chowder and went through 6 or more pounds of halibut (who weighs).

Anyone willing to share tips/tricks for hitting halibut off the spit?

Here's a little more incentive. I overlooked this pic in the batch of their day's full catch. Went 5 kings, 5 halibut for 4 anglers. Just one of those halibut would fix me up for the winter. The only additional hint I can give is <30 feet deep.
