I'm thinking of replacing the round center hatch with a rectangular hatch in my Hobie Outback. Do any members have this hatch on their Outback and can it be opened while seated with your feet on the pedals? In other words do your legs get in the way of opening it without having to move your legs out of the way?

I have a 2015 outback. I replaced the center hatch with a rectangular one and really like the change. For me it made the hatch much more usable.  I mounted mine with the opening towards the seat.  That way worked best for me but others like the opening other ways.  I think I normally have my feet off the pedals while accessing the hatch just for simplicity. I am not sure if I have to or not.

I got the bucket insert with it and really like it.  I normally can carry just about everything for the fishing trip in the bucket.

The install was easy and only took about 20 minutes.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Thanks for the input Nobad. I'm thinking it may work for me but I don't want to have to hang my legs over the side to get into the hatch.

I don't need to hang my legs over the side, but I don't keep my feet in the pedals either - and didn't even with the stock hatch.
The rectangular hatch allowed me to use the tackle boxes I have used for years - it was a good move for me.

Thanks Stevm. I'm liking what I'm hearing.

I installed one on my 2015 Outback.  It is one of the best mods I made.  It gives you plenty of easily accessible storage.  The install is a piece of cake after you get over the fear of cutting a big hole in your kayak.  I usually don't have my feet on the pedals, but access is pretty easy for me 5'10" 240#.
