Since watching the video for the Wonder Boner, :D I think I'd like to get out on the water one more time this year. Other than sturgeon and searching for early winter steelhead on the coast, what other fisheries are open and worth paddling?

there is always clams and crabs... informal meet up sometime between the 26th and the 2nd at netarts.. I have tons of bait and know where the clams hide ;D  I need to check the tide book to see what days best for clams.  There are a few chinook still around in coastal rivers and the steelhead are starting to show up.

I've never done the crab/clam thing. I think the chinooks still hanging out will likely be closer to the boot variety than the eating variety by now. Have the steelies been getting caught? I know the tides are swinging pretty good during this moon phase but how's the weather been?

still bright fish around in the wilson tidewater...  steelhead being caught too, once this storm and associated rain, passes though the coastal rivers all should fish.. I know of one today on the clack! buddy stopped by about 11am to show me an 8lb reason I should have gotten out of bed today instead of sleeping in ::)

Looks like I'll be making one more trip out to the coast for a frigid Monday paddle. Got plans?

Looking at the forecast (brrrr!)  I will be home tying yarn balls (couple doz so far today).  If they get it wrong I might give the clack a shot out of the stink boat.  Not sure what the rivers at the coast look like after this storm.  They were fishing before, not sure how much rain they got.  The wilson was where my sources had been getting fish (below sollie smith)

I've floated down to sollie smith. To get below there, would it be best to put in at the ramp and follow the tide out and then back in? Is there another kayak accessible launch before Memaloose?

You could put in at memaloose and then paddle up the wilson as far as you can get fishing along the way, then ride the tide back out.  Not sure about how hard a paddle it would be to go down from sollie and then try to paddle back up, some decent flow there. The are no "ramps" between sollie and memaloose but there might be some spots to slip a yak in. the area around the 101 bridge/Shilo Inn might work I'm not sure... Have never looked but you perked my curiosity, will have to look next time I'm down. Mills bridge to sollie is a good bet too..  Either way I would check the flows before I drove over,

Flows on all coastal rivers look to be dropping by tomorrow midmorning. Any idea about whether the Wilson, Nehalem or Nestucca would be the best bet?

I'll be driving over early and slowly and spending most of the day paddling in likely solitude.  :)

Hey Jay, do yourself a favor and pre-tie all your rigs.  I was out Saturday for a couple of hours and it didn't take long till I couldn't feel my fingers anymore.

Looks like Mother Nature has decided that driving over any of the coastal passes will be a dumb thing to try tomorrow. I think I'll hit up Joe's for some sturgeon candy in the morning and do some sturgeon hunting on the Willy here in the Newberg area.

Enjoy the weather and be safe....
