Assuming the wind cooperates, I'm planning on targeting lake Sammamish cutthroat on Monday. I've never been to the lake before, and I'm new to the species as well. I'm extending an invite if anyone wants to meet up.

I might be able to sneak out in the afternoon, are you heading out in the AM?

I was out last weekend. Fishing was decent. While there were fish all over the water column I could only find biters deep at 35 feet. They might bite closer to the surface though but having leadcore, a downrigger or weights is a good idea.

I've heard of folks still fishing with worns off the bottom but have never tried. I like trolling and catch plenty of fish doing so.

I'm relatively new to the fishery too but I have had a lot of success with a slingblade with a worm tipped red and green wedding ring. Other folks really like using spoons as well. I'm sure a wide range of tactics are effective.

Good Luck raven, I'd appreciate a followup.  Don't know if I mentioned I limited on crab in the area you suggested in December two times.  Our Christmas dinner included a quick toast your way.

Micah, I plan to launch at 8am or so, and hope to be warming up at home by the afternoon. I installed a Scotty lake troller last year, and have quite a few flashers and sling blades. I picked up some needlefish spoons, and a bunch of wedding rings, so hopefully I can find what they want. Did you launch from the state park? I'm considering launching at Idlewood beach park.

Trident, I'm glad you had success winter crabbing at kayak point! Weather permitting , I'll post any success I have.

Ravensfan,

I'm not going to make it monday, hopefully I will get out this weekend though and I'll post a report.

I either launch from the state park or the boat ramp if I'm feeling lazy. I zig zag back and forth to the weather buoy generally speaking.

Well I I went out both days, sat PM and today AM...giving my report from the water. Sat PM was super slow for me, but today has been better. I caught a couple right in front of the state park at 20-25 feet.

Hope all who go out have a bit more consistent action than I had!

I had a bad day of fishing, but got a good workout yesterday. Launched at about 845am from Idylwood park on the north end of the lake. I headed south, not marking many fish. Went as far south as the weather buoy. I did mark fish around it, but couldn't get them to bite. Overall I logged 15+ miles, and am paying for it today. Next time I'll launch from the state park!

I've had pretty good luck on Sammamish lately and heading back there on Sunday with some other Kayaking friends. I usually launch at the boat launch so I can pull the car right up to the water. It's a bit of a trek out to the buoy but I've been limiting once out there.

Someone was still fishing flies and killing it from a small boat. I've just been trolling wedding rings tipped with worm since I don't know anything about that method. Black Hale bop flies 20ft down I heard. How do you rig something like that?

The bite was on yesterday!

I took a classmate out yesterday and we caught and released our limit except for pair of deeply hooked fish that came home for dinner. Out by the bouy, 22 and 32 feet down on the downriggers, same old wedding ring combos.

Simplest way is to use light spinning gear with a split shot a foot or so ahead of the fly.

Or, use a 5wt with heavy sink tip, or tie in a short section of lead core trolling line to either the fly line or the spinning rig between the running line and the leader.
