Hello everyone. Just bought a used Hobie Outback and thought this would be a great place to learn the ins and outs of kayak fishing.
I'm not new to fishing. Spent most of my life fishing in the Sierras for trout and bass in the local rivers and lakes. Ten years ago I built a deep  hulled 14 foot aluminum boat and started taking it over to the coast on camping trips to fish for crab and bottom fish. Knew nothing about ocean fishing at the time but have learned a lot mostly by trial and error.
I decided that a kayak would be easier to take places than the boat and could be launched from anywhere the conditions permit opening up new places to fish.
I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can from the forum and some great adventures kayak fishing.

Welcome :)

Check out the sister site NCKA

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/

Depending on where you are in Nor Cal you might find that site better geographically suited for your questions.

Thanks crash. I have joined that site but am waiting for an email back so I can log in. I figured that there was a wealth of knowledge here too that would be beneficial so I joined both sites.

Yeah that was another incentive to join here. We do like to vacation in Oregon or Washington in the summer so maybe see some of you up there.

I live in the foothills just north of Yosemite so unfortunately I'm four hours from where I like to fish on the coast.

I stomped all over those hills when I was a kid.  Caught my first trout at Parrot's Ferry bridge near Columbia.  The old one, before the river was dammed.  I still get down that way, have a family place in Twain Harte.  Should be there first week of June.  Gold panning and trout fishing, good times :)

I live about ten minutes from Twain Harte. On Sunday my daughter and I took our kayaks to Melones and carted them down the old bridge road. The lake was low enough in 2015 that the old bridge was exposed.
