I have my Lucid lip gripper on a cord leash.  What's the theory about using bungie cord rather than just cord?  To provide shock absorption if the fish is thrashing around so much that you drop the lip gripper?
Yup gives a big lingcod a little room to play, NOT that I have ever landed a big lingcod.

With a 2 foot length of bungee attached better than that of the wrist strap and a solid brass swiveling clip attached to the boat, I can let go of the grips and just hang onto the bungee letting the fish do it's thing.  He's not going anywhere.

I still don't get why more people don't do this. I use a pair of Bogas and also have them on a bungee that's clipped onto the kayak. It really makes handling fish easy and I don't have to worry about a fish swimming away with my lip grippers like a Portland hipster with a big ass piercing.

Hey Rawkfish, I know you have landed some mega halibut off your kayak.  How do you feel about attaching the boga grips to those big halibut while the grips are attached to your kayak, even if it is a bungie.

Watching a few of those halibut sink a A2 buoy for a long time, I think I would have some concerns about having the bogas attached to the kayak with even a bungy cord.  No problems?  I can't believe I still have the same Boga grips and have not lost them yet.  My rule for big halibut is to NEVER put your wrist through the straps.  But without a solution like your bungie, its only a matter of time before I lose one...and they aren't cheap!

i too use the plastic gripper`s but after a few years i am lacking trust in it and with my luck the dam thing will break when i catch that record for me fish. no more worries! i just ordered some lucid gripper`s. i like the swivel head feature to much. time to retire my plastic. as for lanyard? i took stock one off my gripper and replaced it with 1/4? bungee and will do same when new gripper gets here. reason i did bungee was for added length plus a little stretch if needed. for those that do use the lucid, how long have you had them for?. and am sure they have seen the salt too?

I'm still using my original 2 sets from 2014, and they still function/weigh the same as day one. Just make sure to rinse and or soak them in freshwater after each trip to sea.

2014, too - although mine don't get nearly as much use as polyangler's...   ;D
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Rudy, I would never attempt to lip a halibut with any form of grippers.  Harpoon with A1, die, die, die, then to fish stringer.

As for long term use of said gripper:
I used my first set of green fish grips from 2008 till 2014, I used the wrong brass clip on that bungee tether and had a 27" inch ling hanging off the side of my yak while I untangled my reel and got the rod in the rod holder.  Damn fish did a gator roll up my leash and twisted the clip just right and popped it off my anchor trolley line, and slowly sank away from me with the gripper still attached to his lip.
Not a lot of post salt water cleaning needed with plastic grips, stainless pivots, bungee, and brass clips.

BTW...That clip was like this one, levered retainer and no swivel.

What I use now.  No way to easily open the gate with side loading like the one above.

LOL NO!  :D  There's no way I would consider trying to grab the lip of an 80 lb fish with my Bogas.  That is harpoon territory for sure IMO.  I must admit, I'm a bit surprised you haven't lost yours yet too.  You seem pretty bold with using them.  :D  I also have my bungee chord attached to my seat with a plastic-ish clip, so if something pulls too hard on it the clip fails and I'll just lose the Bogas. The thought of losing those really makes my palms sweaty so I don't risk it.  I'd say the biggest fish I'd grab with them would be about 20 or less.

I did that day as I had the anchor trolley ring clamping down in my paddle keeper.
I don't connect it there any longer, instead I attach to more secure places on the kayak now.

I'm in my third year of using the cheapo Irwin qwik clamp (around 5$). Have retained 36" ling with no issues. They aint fancy, they are cheap and easy to replace. :banjo:
I just don't have the money to spend on a lot of fancy gear, so I tend to do with what I can afford.
