I'm starting to get the itch!  Has anyone fished Suttle this early in the season?  I'm thinking about trying to fish it this week or next.  Lure suggestions, etc. would be awesome.

Has Suttle lake even thawed out yet?  Last time I looked it was still covered in ice.

I have never fished Suttle lake so I can't help you there.

If you want early lake fishing, you might consider Lake Billy Chinook.  From what I have read, the fishing is a bit slow, but fish are being caught.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

You can call the Suttle Lodge (541) 638-7001 for current ice and fishing conditions. Tactics depend on whether you are targeting kokanee or browns. The kokes are pretty small and you can catch them trolling or jigging. The brown tout main forage are a species of whitefish and juvenile kokes which are 3-6" long. Use a long setback 150-200' for flatlining for browns. I have had more luck with smaller plugs (7-9cm) than larger plugs (11-15cm). It blows like a mo fo in the late morning and afternoon but there are lots of places to make land if the SHTF. My favorite lake in the Sisters area. Good luck! Scott

+1 on LBC, looks a bit windy this week but fishing for trout and kokes  has been decent.  Kokanee are a little small so far.  It's a great place to fish this time of year, no crowds.

Thanks for the info fellas!  Our temps have been relatively mild so I hoped it was thawed out.  Time for a scouting trip or a phone call.

I was planning on Suttle due to how close it is to me (~25 min).  It is blowing like crazy at the house now and I can't imagine being out there today.

FYI -  Suttle Lake is thawed out.  I did a little recon after taking the dogs to the Metolius yesterday.  The lake was complete glass too.  Figures it was like that with no wind since i didn't have my boat or gear with me...
