was searching steelhead university the other night and finally got over into their tackle and gear reviews and that led me to a new style spinning reel invented by a bass guru out east.

TackleTour thought the original wavespin reel was innovative and a decent price ($79) but only gave it a 6.67.  They previewed a new ultralight version at ICAST this year that they seemed to think was better.

Here's the tackletour review

Finally getting a spinning reel, eh? FWIW I have heard mixed reviews on the wavespins.  For me, the jury is still out on these.  I think it is more gimmick than anything- kind of like the superwide spool reels.  With all of the difficulty you have been having with your baitcasters I would suggest going with something tried and true.  Find something in the right price range with a decent number of ball bearings.  My next spinning reel will be another Pflueger President; I love that reel and it has done good by me.

yep, i'm taking your advice on changing out my systems. i'll keep the bait casters, just re-spool with stren micro fuse and use them the right way.

wasn't in the mood to drive over to lacey this afternoon and browse the mega stores, that's a 50 mile + round trip i can postpone til another time, so stayed local and found some things that caught my attention but not so great that they'd reach out and grab my wallet..

have taken a like to the shimano 4000rb reel, and am going to pair it with a shimano rod i saw today at the local freddies. total outlay minus line which i already have,  will be under $75.00, which puts me ahead of the game vis a vis the wave spin by it's lonesome.  ;D
