Had a Saturday shop get together with MattM and SamM (no relation).
Matt wanted a rack fir his harbor freight trailer and Sam wanted to reinforce his trailer sides and add some top handles to the sides.
Was actually kinda fun for me directing both of them on the cutting and grinding while a was burning metal. At one point I was welding Matt's pieces together while Sam was grinding paint off the spits we were welding, then Matt was grinding welds smooth while I welded Sam's parts on. Had a good time even though we didn't fish..... talked about fishing though so that counts right?!?!?!?
Matt's rack is able to switch from one kayak centered to hauling two Hobies with the removable bar we made to extend out to the fender edges. And can haul 3 boats if the deck is clear..... he just needs to convince his wife he needs another boat  ;)   Hope that don't get him slugged in the shoulder  :spittake:

Thanks again Shannon for all the help, and for giving up your Saturday to help us! The rack you designed is way more than I had ever imagined, and much more functional as well.

NOT a problem I had a blast. I want to see both projects after you guys paint them and want to see Matt's with the side panels on the trailer.

Was finally able to drill the holes I needed to properly attach the rack to the trailer. I used heavy duty L brackets to attach to the 3/4" ply on the trailer so that I could easily remove the rack without  having to reach under  the trailer, they also help keep the rack aligned in the same place everytime. I used "PTO" bolts to hold the top crossbars to the main frame. When I am only transporting one kayak I will likely leave those off, but the crossbars are wide enough to fit two outbacks. I do need to get some smaller washers and slightly longer bolts as well as lock nuts for attaching to the brackets, but these will do for the time being.

Nice - looks like that will work quite nicely for you Matt.  I got most of my painting done today, hoping to finish tomorrow.

Thanks again, Shannon.
