We'll be out at Hagg tomorrow around 10/11ish if anyone cares to join in the fun.  Had plans with family and friends for another venue but luck went my way and we're now moving to a body of water (so I can skip out on everyone and fish, lol).  I'll be on VHF 69.  I plan to shoot for bass and maybe troll for some whatever else just to test my rigging.

My daughter just showed me a cell phone video of what looked like at least a 4-5' sturgeon swim by the shore line near the rocks by the dam.  The person was standing down near the waterline what looked like the cove between the picnic tables and the dam itself.

I've heard of folks mentioned that they have seen a sturgeon in there, but without actually seeing it myself I am reluctant to believe it.  The video is pretty dang clear of what it is, and where it was filmed.

Maybe you'll get to see it if you hang out near the cove by the damn.  :o

We may get out there later in the afternoon for the maiden voyage of my wife's new Hobie Sport. Will be late as my big band is playing the farmers market in Vantucky in the morning.

That will give me an excuse to paddle over to the damn.  Plus I want to try for some bass around the rocks there.  I still haven't caught a bass at Hagg.

How did you do today?

I saw this last night and kept an eye out, but I don't think I saw anyone on a kayak from this forum. I was out on my Jackson Coosa HD, but you probably couldn't see me due to the forest camo colorway  ;D

I stuck to the Sain Creek area and managed a small LMB and a small SMB. Water was 64° back there. Got both on a chatterbait. Lots of followers on big swimbaits, but no love.

I didn't see you that I recall or I probably would have said hi if we were close enough.  I saw a few folks out on Hobie yaks and a bunch of rec paddlers.  So far I'm basically a no score at Hagg.  I can catch stuff off the bank with powerbait but that's not fishing (to me).  I tried Sain Creek late in the afternoon, around 5 maybe, but no luck.  All I've ever seen pulled out of there are little guys and the one monster sunfish I caught on a fly.  I dunno what it is about Hagg but I just can't get stuff there.  I will unlock its secrets someday. :)  I did see several fish when I went up the next cove past Sain, but promptly got snagged in the trees because I forgot I had an armada of rods on the back of the yak.

I didn't try chatterbaits.  I used a big Texas rigged worm up in the reeds and a spinnerbait along the edges with no luck.  I spent the majority of the afternoon just trying to learn how to troll with a kayak.

Regardless of fishing success, I had a great time paddling around the lake.  I really love having a kayak that can cover some distance when needed.  It makes exploring parts of the lake I've never been to so much more fun.

Sounds like a nice day on the water nonetheless! The water was definitely busy. I'm anxious to find some decent size smallmouth, but this lake is huge and not easy to learn.

I'm still so green up here, but hagg feels like the water level is at a tough spot for locating bass. Steep drop straight from shore to 14' deep where I've been fishing. I was watching my sonar and just cruising around, and there is a lot of deep vegetation along the sunken creek beds. I feel like the bigger fish are still staging relative to deep structure where they would be at a lower water level, but that's San Diego bass fishing.

I recently got back into the plastic Navy after a long hiatus due to boat ownership, but I'm loving it. I'll keep posting and hope to fish with some of you soon!
