I've been working to try and pass along the stoke to the next generation. My son has caught a few fish from the bank but getting one from the kayak is proving challenging. The biggest obstacles being the attention span of a 3 year old and my total inability to catch bass. He's very comfortable in a kayak and this year he asked for his own orange kayak, with his own paddle, for his 3rd birthday. I of course was happy to make that happen! After having a father and son huli last year in our tarpon 100 I also decided to upgrade the father/son fishing vessel to an I11s. It's a impressive craft and works wonderful for kid fishing. After a couple of shake down runs on the Tualatin, and no fish, we were ready to give the Columbia a shot on Sunday. We were hoping for a sockeye or some shad but after a couple of hours of trying we weren't having any luck. Finally we hooked a smallie. He was getting pretty tired at this point in the day and I think we might have had better results earlier. He gave a couple of cranks on the reel before deciding he'd rather net the fish. This was the plan until he actually saw it. Then he wanted nothing to do with it, as you can tell from the pictures  ;D He gave a pretty impressive scream heard up and down the river! Still an awesome day on the water!

You will have to take him to the Crappie Classic, that's where my granddaughter caught her 1st kayak fish (and 1st ever). Guaranteed family fun...

I was lucky enough to witness this great feat of fishing.  When I heard him screaming, I assumed it was because you took his fish away so you could use it for AOTY points.  ;)  I was impressed with his ability to stay occupied and happy. At that age, I was lucky if my kids would last an hour or two.

Cool series of pics. Remarkable staying power! Getting kids comfortable around the water at a young age is a great gift.

What an awesome bunch of pictures Noah. Ya did good . I absolutely love seeing kids catching and reacting to fishing. When my kids were little they always wanted to poke the fishes eyes out for some reason ???? Never could figure out the joy of that--- but whatever.... I was just happy to drag them along.
All you parents of young kids really need to get tour kids away from electric toys and get them outside . Let them enjoy the nature that surrounds us here in the  PNW. Cause we have a wonderful area to raise kids . Please do it right.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

It was a healthy scream. I also thought it was when you took it away. It was nice fishing with you.
