Don’t pick up rattlesnake ANYTIME, never mind in a kayak. This should not have to be said yet: Rattlesnake bit kayaker who picked it up with his bare hands http://www.thestate.com/news/nation-world/national/article211609889.html

"Adams's cousin, Kyle Colquitt, said Adams paddled over to what he thought was an alligator in the water, but when he discovered it was a snake he yanked it into the air, according to abcnews4.com."

I read that and thought... hmmm, I imagine a snake bite would hurt and that venom has got to be painful.  I wonder what might have happened had he actually floated over to the ALLIGATOR...

Well, a little Google search and here's what I found.

Quote
In a study led by professor Greg Erickson of Florida State University, the bite force of crocodiles and alligators was tested by placing a measuring device similar to a tuning fork between their teeth. A gauge attached to the device gave the scientists readings of the animals' bite force in psi. The American alligator clamped his jaws around the device exerting an average of 2,980 psi and ranked fifth overall in terms of bite strength among the species tested. In comparison, animals such as hyenas, lions and tigers bite with a force around 1,000 psi.

There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity.... this idiot needs a fence :banjo:

Probably stupid enough to jump in the water at seal island during breading season to see if them there are white sharks or dolphins?!

The bad part would be getting back to the launch with the venom coursing throuh your circulatory system. Pretty sure vigorous exercise is not recommended after you've been bitten. I can hear Marlin Perkins telling Jim he better be careful.

No, the bad part would be being stupid enough to grab a rattlesnake.  The rest is just entertainment.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Where's the requisite "alcohol may have been involved" tagline?

Red Green Show, proof us Canadians are good for something!  We can fix anything with duct tape!

Paddling California felt it necessary to have an article on rattlesnakes and common sense considerations if kayaking. http://www.paddlingcalifornia.com/article_kayaking_rattle_snake_bite.html
