Looks like I'm headed to Baja for a week in February. Anyone have any knowledge or contacts for kayak fishing around La Ventana? I've done a bit of googling, but have only found a few panga-based trips.

Thanks,
Brian

I would check out a book called "The Baja Catch" by Neil Kelly and Gene Kira.  It's written for people fishing out of "car toppers" and has lots of info on where to fish up and down baja.  I'm sure they have some info for La Ventana or there abouts (I'm not sure where that is exactly).  I spent a month in Baja with some friends camping out of our truck and kayak fishing every day using this book.  The copy I had was from the library and it looked like it had been to Baja on several occasions.

Thanks! I'll have to see if I can get a copy through the library here.

FYI - Took a quick look on Amazon, and there are two sellers there who want $50+ for the book. However, you can buy it directly from the author $26.95, including shipping:

Yeah, the Amazon link prices seemed silly, but it was an easy way to get the book info on the post.

I got a copy floating around somewhere.  If I can find it, I'll gladly mail it to you to borrow.

There is a small resort called Palapas la Ventana that is setup primarily for freedivers, that is the only thing I know of in the area.  There is good fishing in that area, but Feb. is not the ideal time for that part of the Cortez.

Kira's book is a classic, and a good start, but a lot of the info is no longer accurate.  We went to campgrounds listed in the book that turned out to have closed for over 5 years.  Trailer Boating Baja by Zach Thomas was much more useful for logistical info, and together the 2 books will have you dialed.
