Snagging Seward Sockeyes

So...is that still a thing this week? I know they increased to 12 last week, but I don't pay good attention generally.

I could go Fri or Sat, but have never hit Seward for sockeye before and have never snagged (intentionally) from a kayak. Anyone with experience headed south soon? I'd love to tag along.

Planning on kayak camping either south shore Caine’s head or thumb cove.  I might swing by spring creek to check out the action on the way.

I have never snagged reds in Seward period....let alone from a Kayak...and so I hoped someone would jump in and say, "Hey...come with me, I'm going to do that on Friday." And then I'd just tag along and learn.  :-)

Can’t show you the ropes cause I got none.  Can’t commit if I’m going to fish either.

Still recuperating from copper dip net and My shoulder wouldn’t allow me to cast from the shore. So I imagine trolling for Kings except I’m trolling to snag something, anything. 

My intel tells me that there is 3 to 4 big push per season and we’re up to three...usually happens during high tide.  Of course timing is everything and it might not happen this weekend.

It’s really hit and miss down there right now from what I hear. I think I just got lucky hitting it right down there. But you never know when the schools could start running in there. I would pull up by the rig and just look for schools jumping for a bit. If there’s no fish jumping it’s not worth trying until you see something. But there are some rockfish to be caught in close. Not big in size but a limit can make some good fish tacos. Whiskey’s forecast looks pretty good for now. I might try that Monday if it holds up. I need some halibut!
