Fish finder brought back from the dead

So I used to have a Lowrance HDS5 that survived plenty ocean waves and even a few full submersions. My new hook4 not only was less resilient, it had a little rubber cover over the micro sd slot that came off one day before I went out in the salt, so it got full of water when I hullied. As a stubborn nerd I wasn't going to give up easily. I shook out the water, took it home, then used a hacksaw all around the edge to pry it apart. The circuit board had salt stains on both sides which I cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol. I let it all dry very well, cleaned up the plastic shavings from the saw, then put goop all along the edge, even fully covering the rubber cover for the sd card slot. I can always scrape that away if needed. Anyway it was a total success after testing it all weekend.

I stole Insayn's idea of using plasti-dip. Peel off and re-apply as needed.

mine leaked by the nut sealing the housing for the power plug. First time out at hobuck and took a few waves. Now my FF stays in the hatch until I get past the breakers.

Good to know about the leaky power and sonar nuts. Might goop those as well if I can manage to not mess up the threads.
