Have any of you had issues and successfully fixed or had someone fix your line counter? My reel has a lot of miles on it from this past year or so of having it, mostly salt water use. I’m a total slacker when it comes to proper care of the reel. Sometimes after a good surf wash I’ll spray it off with the water hose, but that’s about it. The line counter is jammed up. Sometimes it frees up and kinda works but most the time it doesn’t. When it is working and hits 100’ it stops. I’m afraid to take it apart because who knows if it will ever be put back together properly. Please help! I love this reel and need it to work again ASAP.
Had the same issue with a couple cold water reels but much sooner and in addition to drag issues. So far the Daiwa has done a much better job of handling “Casey miles” as my dad would say.
Thanks!

Lexa's are pretty easy to service yourself and the line counter is the weakest link in the chain due to water intrusion at the reset button.
Here's a video that will help you along. It doesn't have the line counter but once you have the case open, it's pretty self explanatory.
Here's a link to the schematic: https://www.daiwa.com/us/service/manuals/image/baitcasting/LEXA-LC300H_300PWR-P.pdf

Alternately, you can send it back to Daiwa for service.  Here's the RMA request form: https://www.daiwa.com/us/service/image/ServiceRequestForm.pdf

I do service/maintenance on a lot of saltwater reels during the off season.  I've tried to clean & lube various line counter tumblers but sometimes they are sealed or just need to be replaced.  Most line counter tumblers have fine plastic teeth on the gears and just do not have a robust design for reliability over many years of use.  It isn't that difficult to maintain or replace (you could do it, Casey!)...just take a few photos and have a schematic if you forget to take pictures.  Try not to lose/drop things like e-rings or springs during disassembly and reassembly.  AlanTani.com is a website with some great information and tutorials for various reel models.

Thank you both! I will give it a try after January 1st. The most important functions are still working. That will have to do for now.

I had the same issues. Performing standard maintenance corrected the problem but only for a few sessions before they returned. I eventually became frustrated and came up with a much better solution: https://m.tackledirect.com/shimano-tek501hglca-tekota-line-counter-reel.html

I took apart an Okuma 354D LC reel to look at the line counter (and do some maintenance).  Look at those tiny pitch plastic gears!  They must be 100 TPI or finer.  There's about 8 gears in the LineCounter sub-system.  This is a nearly NEW reel, very little use.  It surprises me that those line counters work at all....then again, I'm surprised that airplanes fly, and even more surprised when I catch a salmon.

Interesting! Definitely room for improvement on those line counters. Being surprised when catching a salmon just makes it that much sweeter!

I had the same problem with my Lexas.  I found that cleaning them out and keeping the line counter assembly very dry was the trick to getting them working again.

So by “cleaning them out” you don’t mean spray it with the water hose after a surf dump? I sprayed some lube in the line counter through the reset lever, that freed it up. We’ll see how long that lasts 😉🤷‍♂️
