I'm really glad this guy is ok but I think this is an example of poor home training. He was fishing big water (the St John's is the size of the Columbia where he was ) in a VERY small boat (8'  sit inside with a giant cockpit). The news showed his recovered boat on Sunday evening with bait on the hook and a cooler with beer in it. I like to play in big water, but I wouldn't in that boat.

I'm betting that he bought that boat for the same reason I did. (It was cheap!)
I got mine because it was cheaper than shipping my boats to Florida from pdx. The difference is I had actually seen a kayak before.

A pretty expensive search---wonder if they charged him???
