Me and my pops hit the barview jetty at 445am. The rf were slamming bait fish all around us. It was insane fishing for the 20 min we had to kill before launching the yaks. It was very tough leaving them biting like that. Nothing super big, all sizes up to about 12-13".
Launched the yaks and started paddling out about 530am for a 617am low tide. It was gorgeous out, virtually no wind. Had the south wall to ourselves all morning. With the conditions the way they were, I expected lights out fishing. Never really came to fruition. I caught a small greenling right away, and then a nice 17" greenling right behind it. I was getting  excited about the possibilities for the day. Unfortunately, we never really found any schools. Just onesey-twoseys for the next 3 hrs. Wind picked up all of a sudden about 9am, and chased us out of there. At times, the giant mats of grass were tough to deal with. Even though fishing was pretty slow, at least we caught a nice grade of fish. I ended up with 18 black rf, 5 kelp greenling, 1 cabazon, and 1, what I think is, a brown Irish lord. Pops had similar numbers of rf and a couple small greenling. Might be the first time we've ever fished the wall without catching a copper rf. (I caught 47 out there one day once).  3-4 of the rf were dinky, a couple were decent 10-13", about a dozen were 15-17" piggies. 1 greenling was small, the other 4 were all 15-17". Cabazon and Irish lord? Were both 12" or so. I lost a nice rf at the yak, and had something else strip line and break me off....if anyone can make it out tomorrow, I highly recommend the effort. While slow fishing, the grade of fish was worth it. I've got taco meat for days. And hike out the jetty from behind the store a ways too at daybreak. I caught more fish in 20 min than I did in 3 hrs in my yak.

wow nice catch! Did you guys launch from the GB ramp or did you launch from the barview jetty area?   Having fished from the jetty, i would be curious where it was safe to launch from the jetty.

We launched from the GB boat ramp. We too wish there was a closer launch to the jetties

Yup! That's the routine everytime. The north Jetty is almost always insane fishing right at day break, when the low tide is within 2 hours past sunrise. Occasionally we'll hit a day where we have to launch right as its light enough to see, and I feel cheated not getting my jetty time in lol.  Which sucks this time of year, cause, in order to be standing on the jetty casting as the suns coming up means a 2am wake up call for me....ouch

Sounds like a good day on the water.  Is the jetty open for fishing or still closed to non-locals?  Can't find anything on the web on it.

Nice day on the bay for sure! I was gonna try and get out there Monday or Tuesday again (chasing springers up the Trask one of those days though) depending on what the rain looks like.

They still have the entrance to the park blocked off, even before the big parking lot. You have to turn down the road after the railroad tracks and park and access the jetty there. Little further boulder hopping in the dark....little sketchy on these old knees....lol

Thanks! I ripped out a gill and threw on ice 5 sec after removing jig head. A good electric knife with a new blade is your friend. And....I've had 10k fish to practice on the last 20 years 😉

Just a rapala 12v. Plug it in my truck and use tailgate as my table. Using new sharp blades every year helps tremendously. Buddy just picked up a cordless bubba knife on sale, its pretty sweet. Ill be upgrading to it soon,
