Hi guys, just wondering if its possible to fish Columbia river for salmon? At Saturday was at wanapum dam, doesn't look friendly for kayak under the dam, but didn't have chance to fish on up dam because of winds. What is the good time of the year fish there and which part of the river most friendly. Thanks in advance

Was it only Oregon who closed the Columbia to sockeye retention?  Check the Washington in-season changes.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

The Brewster pool is the most kayak friendly upper Columbia opportunity for King Salmon/Sockeye Salmon. Should be good in a few weeks.

What is the meat like on those fish? Have they used up most of their fat by the time they're that far inland?

They still have a few hundred miles and months to go before spawning as result even in the Brewster pool the meat is still fatty, firm, and great color.
